This week we have been learning about non-fiction text features. We started out by talking about the difference between fiction and non-fiction and sorting books into the correct category. We read a non-fiction book about spiders and identified the different features in the book. We then went on a scavenger hunt to find our own examples in various non-fiction books.
Today Mr. Wood came in to teach us about computers and coding. We learned that computers are not that smart on their own and they need a set of instructions to know what to do. We got a chance to experiment with and make a few programs of our own.
Today we celebrated the 100th day of school. First, we started out by reading the book "100 Ways to Get to 100". Then, we counted our collections of 100 items in a variety of ways (2's, 5's, 10's, 50's). Last, we played a game where we had to figure out where the numbers go on the hundreds carpet. We had a great time learning about the number 100!
This week we were very lucky to attend a presentation by Jim Arnold. He brought instruments from all around the world and we had a chance to try some of them out. Everyone got to play their very own drum too!
Room 19 is very lucky to be welcoming Mr. Forster into our classroom for the next few months. Mr. Forster is a Teacher Education Candidate (TEC) from Wilfred Laurier University. He will be with us every day for the month of February and then every Tuesday and Wednesday in March. We look forward to working with you!
Today the Grade 1's started working on their Living Things Dioramas. Their job is to make an environment that has everything that a living thing needs (food, water, oxygen, energy, living space). They have to include at least two things that are living and two that are nonliving.
