This week we have been working on building our reading stamina. First, we talked about how we can read a book by reading the pictures or reading the words. Each day the students have been working on increasing the amount of time they can read quietly to themselves. So far we are up to 2 minutes and 37 seconds!
This week we continued to work on graphing. We learned how to make a pictograph using pictures or symbols to represent our data. The students have been working on collecting and organizing data independently as well!
We've had a busy second week in Grade 1! We are still learning routines and getting to know each other. It was awesome to see what everyone brought in to share in their All About Me bags. It was so nice to learn more about everyone. We had lots of interesting items....even a beaver skull! In math, we continued to learn about concrete graphs. Here are some pictures of the graphs we made. This week we read the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today and talked about what it means to be a Bucket Filler or Bucket Dipper. Have a fantastic weekend!
Today we made a concrete graph of the types of shoes in our room. A concrete graph is a graph made from real objects.
This week we read the book "The Crayon Box That Talked". We talked about how we are all different and when we work together we can accomplish amazing things. We had a great first week in Room 23! We spent a lot of time exploring the classroom, getting to know each other, and working on routines. We continued to talk about the brain and read the book "Making a Splash". We talked about growth and fixed mindsets. If you have a growth mindset you try challenging things and don't give up when something is difficult. If you have a fixed mindset you avoid challenges and believe that you can't learn something new.
Today we watched a video about the brain. We learned that when we try something challenging our brain gets stronger! Thanks for visiting our website! Here you can check out all of the great things that are happening in our class. We look forward to sharing our learning journey with you!
