Photo Retake Day is on Monday. Please send me a note in the planner if you would like your child to have their pictures taken again.
This week we learned about cycles. A cycle is something that happens over and over again in the same order (sequence). We learned that the four seasons are a cycle because they always happen in the same order. Today we watched a video about the seasons and talked about the characteristics of each with a fun Smart Board activity. Today we had a fantastic time at Forest School with Mrs. Smith. We talked about the seasons and learned a lot of interesting things about how plants and animals get ready for winter. Did you know that ladybugs like to hibernate under rotten apples?! We had lots of time to explore and play in the forest. Stay tuned for some pictures!
Yesterday in math we learned about all the different ways to make 10. We began by singing a math song called Ten in the Nest. While we sang, we tracked how many birds were in the nest and on the ground after each verse. After we sang the song, I told the students that the mommy and daddy bird decided to build a second nest so their babies wouldn't fall out anymore. The students were challenged to figure out how many ways they could split ten birds between two nests. Here are a few examples of what they came up with.Today we started working on Literacy Centres. Each day, students will choose a centre that they would like to work at while Mrs. Miller works with a small group. By the end of the week, students must visit each centre. This week our centres include: Alphabet Stamps, Magnetic Letters, Tumblebooks, Play-Doh Letters, and Writing. We continue to review our letters and sounds. So far we have made it to the letter P. Each day we watch a short movie clip about the letter of the day then brainstorm words that start with that letter. We then work on proper letter formation.
